Dr. LeCompte graduated with honors from the University of Florida in 1973. He received his DDS degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1977. He was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the Honorary Dental Society and received the American Society of Dentistry for Children Certificate of Merit in 1977. He obtained a Specialty Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and a Masters degree in Oral Biology/Physiology from the Medical College of Georgia in 1980. Following his specialty training in 1980, Dr. LeCompte was elected to the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. Dr. LeCompte then taught on the full-time faculty at the Medical College of Virginia from 1980-1983 and completed Board Certification in Pediatric Dentistry that year. Subsequently, he decided to pursue specialty training in Orthodontics and completed that specialty program at the University of Florida in May of 1985. During his two years at the University of Florida, he was awarded the National Research Service Award Fellowship by the National Institute of Dental Research. Dr. LeCompte has published over 30 articles and abstracts in refereed journals. His articles have concentrated on Orthodontics, Growth and Development, and Fluoride research. In 1985, Dr. LeCompte was one of five internationally invited speakers at the International Fluoride Symposium at the 1985 International Association of Dental Research meeting. Dr. LeCompte has given numerous presentations and continuing education courses around the United States and internationally. He continues to be involved in research, teaching, and continuing education presentations. He is on the Adjunct Faculty at the University of Florida and Nova University Department of Orthodontics. For the past five years he has been a member of the Mentor Committee for the Southern Association of Orthodontists and has been the Chairman of that committee for the past two years. This committee is designed to educate orthodontic graduate students and new orthodontists in ethics and professionalism in their practices. Dr. LeCompte was recently appointed as Editor for the Southern Association of Orthodontics and is a member of their Board of Directors. He is also on the Board of the Florida Association of Orthodontists. In 1991, he completed the qualifications for Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics. This achievement is the highest level of accomplishment in this specialty, and only about 20% of orthodontists attain such status. Dr. LeCompte is one of only a handful of dentists in the United States that are board certified in two dental specialties. Although Dr. LeCompte presently limits his practice to orthodontics only, his back-ground in pediatric dentistry is a tremendous advantage in treating young, growing individuals who present with early developing skeletal problems. Though the majority of our practice is comprised of children and young adults age 7-17, 25% of our practice is comprised of adults, age 18-78! Port Orange, Florida 32127 1737 N.
